Endlessworlds.com

We're back. Sort of.

After being in server limbo as 2 different companies claimed to not be responsible for fulfilling the webhost contract, and a third company failing to follow through on contractual obligations, I've finally found a webhost company that will host this site.

This is (or will be) endlessworlds.com, a website devoted to science-fiction and fantasy. We will be providing book reviews, author's links, and convention information. A number of book reviews will be uploaded in the next couple of days from the existing pool of reviews that we had on the old site.

Soon, you'll be able to submit your own book reviews. I'll be uploading software that will allow you to write reviews for books that already have reviews. I'll also be accepting reviews for books that I haven't yet gotten around to reviewing. Unfortunately, I can't offer any sort of payment for book reviews, nor can I (at this time) offer copies of books to review. However, once this site is well and truly established, I'm hoping that publishers will offer free copies to review, and I'll be able to send out a limited number of books to trustworthy (and competent) book reviewers.

Reviews must be relatively short (about 100 words), and must not divulge the outcomes in the book. Books are to receive a score from between zero and 99. Here's a guide to how to score books.

Zero: Blank pages would've been more enjoyable.

1-10: Some sentences MAY have had punctuation, but it was too difficult a read to get past page 3.

11-20: Most sentences have punctuation, and some semblance of structure. Plot (if there is one) is unrecognizable. Things happen for absolutely no reason and the author doesn't seem to care.

21-30: Reading a telephone directory would be more enjoyable, and easier.

31-40: A plotline exists, and seems vaguely reasonable. Characters are 2-dimensional and seem to do things for absolutely no reason. A difficult book to pick up (the opposite of a Difficult book to put down).

41-50: Reasonably grammatically sound. There's a plot, probably a little hackneyed. Characters are still 2-dimensional, but their actions do seem to be reasonable. More interesting than watching paint dry, but it still takes an effort to read it all.

51-60: Tried and true, formulaic or rehashed, but at least it's not difficult or onerous to read. Some characters are fleshed out to some degree, and it isn't a chore to read, but you when you've finished, you wonder why you made the effort.

61-70: An okay book, if you've got nothing else better to do. Most characters are still 2-dimensional, and the plot doesn't seem to be inspired. Better than watching people redecorate their neighbors homes on television.

71-80: A good book. A nice read. A book that you'd be content to curl up and read on a rainy day. Good characterization, good plot, nice twists and turns. Makes you want to keep reading.

81-90: A very good book. One that you'd be happy rereading in the future. A book that immerses you without you even noticing it.

91-95: An excellent book. Dammit, they should make people read these books in school. The words marvellous and wonderful best describe your feelings after having read it.

96-98: Simply outstanding. You find yourself thinking about the characters, plot and scenario for days after having read it. Powerful.

99: The absolute best. All other authors might as well give up and get jobs at McDonalds, cause this book can't be topped. After having read this, I can die happy and fulfilled.

Okay, so the points table is a little silly, but it does get the idea across. Do not be generous with the points. Be especially reluctant with giving any scores over 95. Books scoring over 95 would have to be your all-time favorite book -- one that you feel can never be bettered. Scores over 95 will have to be justified -- they better end up being multiple award-winners.

Very few reviews will be accepted. Turnaround times will be long. Rights will rest with the reviewer, but exclusive rights for the Internet will belong to Mirroreyes Internet Services Corporation, including rights to modify, edit and change the reviews. Again, no payment or other benefit will be given to reviewers whose reviews are published online. There may end up being additional legal stuff included in the reviewers agreement (such as it is).

Thanks for visiting.

Here finally are the old reviews. Links on the individual review pages are old and probably don't work.

You can (try to) reach me here. Unfortunately, I'm not very prompt in responding.
